How I Do What I Do:
A little science, a little soul, a lot of transformation.
Family Systems Therapy
Family Systems work is the heart of my therapeutic approach—it's where my passion for this field began. It was my first true love as a therapist, and it continues to shape the way I connect with and support my clients. Family Systems Work allows me to see beyond the individual and understand the complex web of relationships and dynamics that shape each person's experience. Instead of focusing solely on a single person’s behavior or symptoms, Family Systems Work encourages looking at the patterns within the family unit, recognizing how each person plays a role in the whole. It empowers clients to gain insight not just into themselves but into their interactions with others, helping them break free from unproductive cycles and develop healthier ways of relating. The depth of healing that can happen when people start to understand these connections is incredible, and it's such a privilege to witness transformation unfold.
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing is my newest love in therapy—a fresh and transformative approach that has deeply resonated with me. Somatic Experiencing, founded by Dr. Peter Levine, is a Psychobiological method for resolving symptoms of trauma. It's a way of working that honors the body’s wisdom, recognizing how trauma and stress are stored physically and how healing can happen through bodily awareness. By helping clients reconnect with their physical sensations, Somatic Experiencing opens up a pathway to release, process, and integrate old wounds in a gentle, yet powerful way. It's an exciting addition to my work, offering a whole new dimension of healing.

I offer a mash up of old school top down therapy mixed with a mindful body centered approach to healing trauma. Read on to learn a bit about the difference.
Top-Down
A top-down approach to therapy focuses on addressing mental and emotional challenges by starting with the mind—specifically, your thoughts, beliefs, and cognitive processes—and working down to how those affect your feelings and behaviors. It’s all about changing how you think in order to change how you feel and act.
Bottom-Up
A bottom-up approach to therapy, as described by Peter Levine (the creator of Somatic Experiencing), focuses on bodily sensations as the entry point for healing. Rather than starting with thoughts or cognitive restructuring (as in the top-down approach), this method works from the bottom (the body) up to the mind and emotions.
The core idea behind a bottom-up approach is that our bodies hold deep wisdom and are often the first place where trauma or stress is stored. By tuning into physical sensations, we can access and process emotional and psychological wounds that might be too overwhelming to address directly with thoughts alone.
Trauma isn't just a mental or emotional experience; it's also a physiological one. The body remembers and holds onto past experiences in ways that the mind may not fully access or process. By starting with the body—where trauma is often first encoded—we help clients process unresolved trauma at the root level, allowing for deeper healing that can transform the mind and emotions.
In short, a bottom-up approach is like re-patterning the body’s response to stress and trauma, allowing healing to emerge naturally from the inside out.
